The Attica FEP project is an ongoing research initiative coordinated by the Department of Psychiatry at Eginition Hospital of the University of Athens School of Medicine and involves multiple collaborating clinical settings throughout the city of Athens. The project aims to investigate the relative impact of environmental and genetic risk factors on the development of psychotic disorders, particularly schizophrenia.
Our research plan includes the collection of detailed clinical, neuropsychological and biochemical data from a well-characterized cohort of first-episode psychotic (FEP) patients. Whole-genome genotyping will be performed in order to obtain genotype data for common genetic markers across the genome and estimate the contribution of polygenic effects, which may confer increased genetic liability for mental illness. Models evaluating plausible gene-environment interactions (GxE) will be also explored.
More details will be provided soon…!
Stay tuned!
